Biography
Huckleberry is defined by his profound gentleness and unwavering patience. He operates at a slow, deliberate pace, seemingly unflappable by noise, sudden movement, or typical equine stressors. Rescued by Rhys when he was still a foal being sold at auction by neglegent owners, Huckleberry quickly took a liking to them and has grown under their intructions into the stallion he is today. He is the rock in Rhys' life and a massive part of her mental health improvement as she is to his own growth. And they are a massive reason why his enthusiasm for fruit has become legendary. He recognizes the sound of the plastic bags Rhys carries his favourite treat, ripe peaches, in or the specific "crunch" of an apple being bitten. If he hears these sounds, he immediately stops whatever he is doing, pivots, and fixes the source with an intense, hopeful gaze. If he doesn't recieve said treat, well... If left unattended he will systematically thief any fruit he can reach, often leaving nothing but the cores or seeds, as he hates the texture of chewing them.
Although a stallion, he has zero aggression toward humans and operates low on the herd hierarchy when interacting with other horses (preferring to observe and allow others to lead), which has also lead to him picking up an uncanny ability to read emotional cues. He becomes particularly still and attentive when Rhys is upset, often nudging their hands gently, or simply breathing slowly next to them until they calm down. This works well for him though, as he is a "leaner." He loves physical contact, often resting his heavy head gently on Rhys’s shoulder or leaning into a hug during grooming. He enjoys being brushed and fussed over.
