Dismas

Dismas is a standoffish seeming stallion. He keeps to his own and can be a bit distant, at least he tries, espechially when pressed. As actions speak louder than words, he is kind beneath this shell, but not always forthcoming about it and definetley not totally selfless.  But theres good leading qualities to him, if he only felt the need to apply those once more. However, he has distanced himself from others and generally keeps them at arms lenght.

In some moments, one can see a glimpse of old hurt in him come trough, but none has dared ask about it and Dismas wont tell. In even rarer times, he can be seen looking forlorn at the sunset. Below, he was once very loving, protective and warm. Endlessly warm in fact, so much that this still shines trough even though he tries to appear distant. All those qualities are still there, but he cannot seem to be as open with them as he once was.

Despite this, he isnt cynical and dislikes being so. He doesnt think it is a good mindset to live with and its not in his nature.  Instead, he may appear melancholic then and again. His shell isnt all that thick, after some time spend together, he will be warmer and more forthcoming, but is struggling to truly attatch to his new home and any there.

He once lived a quite different life, a prized horse in a small, well run lesson and show barn. Naturally he was not alone, a well loved leader of his small herd and more importantly, together with the love of his life and their foals. Times were good, life was warm and whole and he was where he belonged and ever wanted to be. His partner, his wife, a mare alike the sun- the two seemed to be untouched by time and the world alltogether.

However, the world did change in ways unexpected and unfathomable to Dismas and his family. Unknown humans began visiting him and one day,  like many before, he was loaded onto a trailer. But all familiar faces stayed behind and his stay at the strange place he was taken to grew longer and longer. Dismas had been sold.

His new owners expected him to up and forget about everything before, to quietly settle in and be their dreamhorse. Bonds of horses being broken up was a common thing after all. But Dismas would not. He would call and stir, grow sullen and spend his time seeking any trace of home.  His new owners did their best to dismiss it all. Because while Dismas was deeply unhappy, they were fulfilling their dream. Their vision had not included this changed version of him.

Still, they figured this would let up eventually. And as theyd planned, they moved themselves and him overseas.

A layover occured. And somehow, the airline managed to loose a whole horse. He wasnt stolen, as pretty much anyone reasonably assumed. Instead, he later was wandering the streets of a large city many hours away, in the dead of night, just him and his fancy nametag halter. A rat or two scurried along in curiosity.

He wound up in the lot of a rather sleazy used car salesman named Lupin. Incidentally, said salesman was both going trough a mid life crisis, planning to switch professions and was also used to very strange things happening to him. An expensive looking horse turning up on Lupins doorstep wasnt even among the top ten. Lupin initially considered finding the horses owner, but man, did than animal look just as forlorn as the man, who did not expect to find some sort of kinship in a random horse, but he would take what he could. And hey, maybe this was a sign from the universe of where to go in life after the car sales.
