Fishing Day

A gray tobiano mare slid down a beach dune. It wasn't overly graceful, but she never wavered nor stumbled.

Ears perked up, she trotted towards the shoreline. Three people, clearly siblings, were sitting there on a log of driftwood, a couple of fishing rods stuck in the sand and a nice parasol above. A few coolers sat heavy behind them. Today's catch was a bountiful one, though not yet the amount they'd aimed for. But the day was still long, the weather nice and the company good.

The mare neighed and greeted them while she was still far. The three responded in kind, calls of “there she is!” and “c’me here girl!” prompted the mare to go faster. She reached them and slowed, just in time to hear a can of beer being cracked open.

“Here Bunny, have some” one of the three, a man named Connor, greeted her with a smile, poured the drink into a bowl and offered it to the mare.

Bunny eagerly took the offer. She sank her muzzle into the bowl and took a few, hearty gulps, it was quickly drawn dry. For a moment she sniffed for more, but it was apparent there wouldn't be any.

“All done girl. You'd drink us dry if we let ya.” Connir laughed, fondly rubbing the mare's forehead.

“Youre a greedy little gremlin.” Dahlia, the sister of the bunch, remarked. “But you're so cute, it's all part of your charm.”

“It really is. And she can't even get into anything here.” Adds November, the third sibling and designated eldest brother. He grinned tiredly. Naturally, he was always in the most need of a vacation. Such as a day fishing on the beach.

Bunny's attention then snapped to the sea. From the waters emerged her person- Azura. Connor's wife, a fishing spear in hand and a basket of fish on her waist. The mare happily trotted over, gaining cuddles and kisses on her soft nose as a greeting.

A while later, Bunny began to nose the basket. She had eaten less edible things in her life, many so. But alas, she was denied and not even her saddest puppy eyes could sway Azura, although the latter was apologetic.

“You know raw fish is out of the question. But we still have dried ones back home. I promise you'll get some later.”

Bunny nicked, she already was over the fish and licked the salt off of Azura's lower arm.

“That taste good?” Connor asked, he'd gotten up to greet his wife and take her basket. The two kissed, with Connor bending himself around the very stationary grey mare. “Mhm salty indeed.” He leant his head on Azura's shoulder for a moment. Then straightened, weighing the basket in his hands. “Good catch too, there's so much I can make with that.”

He smiled, it was going to be great fun. Fermenting, drying, smoking, stock… so much indeed.

“Something edible, I hope.” November chimed in, snickering. Sometimes, Connor liked to experiment and only the ones with the most iron stomachs could take the turnout. Dahlia just groaned and took sips from a can. She remembered a strange mixture of the honey she’d harvested and something indescribable and needed to wash the memory down stat.

While Connor was distracted, Bunny switched to licking his arm. The metal, prosthetic one. It couldn't really taste of much, maybe some distant hint of metal? But surely, no tasty sea salt. And yet- the mare happily licked the material. There was a bit of sand there at most.

“Oh Bunny. That doesn't taste that good.” Azura chuckled, but neither Connor nor her stopped the mare. After all, Bunny seemed perfectly at ease. She was spacing out, actually.

Connor shrugged, grinning good naturedly. “Eh, I'm just gonna stand here for a bit.”
