A month had passed since Mimmi had her granulosa cell tumour removed, and after resting for several weeks, she was finally ready to get moving. Her owner, Eun-byul, was surprised to learn that the procedure, called a "laparoscopic ovariectomy," was uncomplicated with a rapid recovery time. Mimmi was prescribed antibiotics and anti-inflammatories for a few days, followed by a gradual reintroduction of food, while Eun-byul monitored her for any fever or decreased appetite; it was nothing she hadn't managed before. After about two weeks, the incisions had healed, and Mimmi's fur was starting to grow back on her flank.
Now that the rest was over, Eun-byul was excited to ride her new horse for the first time. She had waited to learn about Mimmi's issues and background, and when she found out about the tumour, she refrained from riding, opting instead to walk or long-rein the mare. She hadn’t thought much about it until Svea brought it up while they were grooming their Loshenkas.
"So," Svea smirked, "how does it feel to finally ride Mimmi?"
Eun-byul paused. "Now that you've mentioned it, I’m starting to get nervous... She’s been much calmer after the surgery and a lot less stressed, but I’m still worried she’ll be difficult to ride."
"I wouldn’t worry about that," Svea replied. "She’s been absolutely gorgeous when you long-reined and lunged her. Now that her ground manners are better, her overall temperament should be better too."
Despite not being completely convinced, Eun-byul nodded and continued brushing Mimmi, who was enjoying the attention. The mare didn’t even seem to mind Svea’s horse, Primavera, standing just a few meters away.
Maybe I shouldn't worry when she behaves so well now...

The riders led their Loshenkas out of the stable and toward the mounting blocks. Feeling nervous, Eun-byul climbed into the saddle, with Svea mounting soon after. They set off towards the forest for a slow, calm trail ride as an introduction. Mimmi was thrilled to try something new, and Eun-byul could feel her strength beneath the saddle, but she refused to let it frighten her. In truth, her usual horse, Dove, was much fiercer and had thrown her from the saddle numerous times. Taking a deep breath, Eun-byul let go of her worries and relaxed in the saddle.
As they moved under the green canopy, Mimmi’s ears flicked curiously, but her steps remained steady. The rhythm of her gait was smooth and almost soothing, causing Eun-byul to smile with relief and pride; she felt a little in awe. Mimmi moved with confidence, occasionally turning her head as if to check in on her. Primavera plodded along beside them, while Svea hummed contentedly. The sun filtered through the leaves, casting dappled shadows along the trail, and all Eun-byul could think was how right everything felt. There were no spooks, no nerves, just a quiet walk. Maybe, just maybe, this was the start of a bond between them.
