[BONUS PROMPT 1] diary of a cowboy

‘He ain’t so bad, really. The ride home was pretty long. Boss didn’t take the ride too well and we tried to stop as little as possible to get him home fast. Every stop we made he was snapping teeth and kickin, left the trailer in need for some repairs. Son a bitch even managed to break one of the latches tryin to kick at Joe. damn near pissed myself laffin at him but i must ov been standin too close cause he came at me next.’

Mack looked up from where he was positioned under the stall when he heard Boss move, flashy, excitable and with the devil in his eyes. The stallion gazed down at him but the younger rodeo hand was starting to see more than unbridled rage from the spotted horse. Now the stallion looked down at him with disgust, as if the man reeked of something foul. Mack couldn’t blame him, working all day had a way of making a man feel ripe. 

‘If that wasnt enough for the old man to bitch about, the old man dont know when to step back and accept help. Kept bitchin about his knees hurtin and his back being sore, but then wouldnt let me drive a lick of ~thert~  13 hours. at a point i stop feelin bad for ‘im. He aint the one that got forgot in some field and sent off with some strangers i probably would be throwin a fit too. Like some sort of abduction you see in them alien movies. He made a show of himself when we got im here, kicking our way as he ran out into the pasture. Gettin him stalled was’

A snort from above him made him look up again, a devilish smile crawling over his face as he met the blue eyes that held cautious curiosity towards him. Mack raised his hand slowly, letting his knuckles run against the bars of the stall door and holding it there for a moment. A gust of a wet breath hit his knuckles before the stallion kicked at the stall door and turned around, huffing and puffing up a storm. 

‘I do feel bad for Boss. havin to put up with him. They are just as stubborn. Watchin Joe get in that ring with the Boss is like watchin him argue with a mirror. Its a funny to see but he aint gitten anywhere with him. keeps tellin me to stay away from him, but Boss dont act the same way around me. Not trying to take my fingers every time he gets the chance. Joe says he might be a lost cause, be some sort o yard ~ordam~ ornment. I think the old man just dont have the patience.’ 

“You ain’t so bad Boss.” Mack chuckled out, closing the book and tucking it in his vest as he brought himself slowly to his feet.

The stallion’s head swiveled, rocking impatiently on his back legs and took a step back in the stall, his long tailbone flagging up as his ears pinned back and touched at the tips. With the stall door between them, Mack turned his back to him and tucked his thumbs through the belt of his chaps as he lowered his head. He could hear the snorting from behind him, the loud huff that was aimed in his direction, the scuffing of the stallions' hooves against the bedding. Mack felt a rush of excitement run through him when he felt the stallion breathing against the back of his neck, investigating him without trying to get him through the stall door.
