Phase 1 - welcome home

With an excited smile on her face, Amelia Hohenstein waited at the gate of ravenhill stables for the horse transporter currently making it's way up the driveway.   Inside was newest member of the mini zoo she has been collecting, ever since inheriting this old estate. She wasn't exactly looking to get a new loshenka, but when she saw his shiny, deep violet coat while casually browsing the rescue's website (as you do) she just couldn't help herself.

 

 

Amelia opened the backdoor of the transporter and gently guided the passenger outside. As soon as his hooves hit the ground outside he spun around and every muscle in his body tightened. He looked around the area tensely, his eyes widened in anxiety.

 

 

His nervous gaze met-

Nothing. 

 

 

This loshenka had been at the rescue for his deep fear of any animal that wasn't roughly shaped like a loshenka, even some horses. Knowing this, Amelia knew that her mini zoo was the stallion's worst nightmare, and at the same time the best place for him to heal, considering all her pets were used to being around horses and would never intentionally try to frighten or even attack him.

 

 

For now, all the animals that lived at the farm had been put safely put out of sight  so as to not frighten the newest member of the family to death on his very first day. The loshenka let out a handful of snorts, just in case, his whole body still ready to turn and make a run for it.

 

 

"You're a little dragon, aren't you?",  Amelia asked him in a gentle, soothing voice. "How about we call you Smaug for now?" She patted the horse's shoulder reassuringly. Looking this loshenka over, she noticed his cared for, shiny coat and well trained muscles. Despite having beein surrendered to the rescue, he was in quite good shape physically. He was a good bit smaller than her other two stallions, Boots and King. She hoped that the newcomer would get along well with them. 

 

With her free hand, Amelia signed the rescue center's papers. Having delivered it's precious cargo, the trailer started to move again. In response to the sudden movement, the tense stallion jumped, startled. Despite being spooked,  newly named Smaug just spun around to get a better look at the trailer, and didn't immediately rush off without any regard for his handler, which Amelia interpreted as a good sign for the desensitisation training to come. She reached into her pocket and produced a horse treat that she promptly offered the stallion. Smelling the food seemed to break his tension a bit, and he accepted the offering. Having checked the area and deemed it safe, and now chewing on a treat, he began to calm a bit. 

 

"Come on, let's get you settled in. I hope you won't mind a sorta secluded paddock box for now. You'll meet the others soon enough." Amelia started to guide him to the quarantine box, in case he brought in some infectious disease from the rescue. The desensitisation training would begin soon-
