Spring Rains (Prompt Party)

Uiscefhuaraithe stood out in the rain, water running down the blueberry coat in thick rivulets. It felt delightful, the warm spring rain. She tossed her head, flicking her dark blue tail and sending beads of water scattering into the falling drops.

This was the kind of weather she lived for. Warm rain on an equally warm day. She picked up her white stockinged, front legs and stomped in the mud and puddled water of the pasture. She knew her coat would be caked by mud but she didn’t care. It was too much fun. Besides, Gwen would give her a good rinsing and grooming later. That would mean more time in the water, which was never bad.

The thought momentarily distracted her from the torrent of water currently coming down to a point where Uiscefhauraithe’s hooves began to sink into the mud. Kicking herself free she took off along the fenceline, racing the rain drops along the path. She wasn’t trying to dodge them. She wanted to catch them all.

She paused when the wind started blowing the rain across the open field and turned so the drops weren’t hitting her straight in her brilliant blue eyes. She hated that. Running through it was one thing. Getting smacked in the face by wind driven rain was another. She’d just use the wind to push her around the field though. It was fine.

She took off running with the wind, the drops of water now chasing her. She wasn’t really sure if it made her go faster, but she liked to pretend. Fortunately, she wasn’t fast enough to outrun the rain and was still getting nice and soaked but the droplets.

She turned the corner of the field just as the wind died down and had the pleasure of jumping a few of the small streams running through the grass. Oh this was too much fun!

With an impulsive hop, Uiscefhauraithe dashed towards the nearest available puddle of mud and took a delightful roll in it. The mud felt delightfully cool and then the warm rain. She couldn’t ask for a better day!

As she stood up, shaking enough to send splashes of mud everywhere, her tail sending several larger globs squishing back into the ground, Uiscefhauraithe turned to find Gwen standing not far off. She wasn’t worried though, Gwen wouldn’t be mad.

Sure enough, Gwen just brushed the splashes of mud she hadn't managed to defect off her dress and shook her head with a resigned kind of smile, waving the mare off. “Well, go and finish playing. We may as well both enjoy the storm while we have it.”

Without needing any further prompting, Uiscefhuaraithe took off back into the warm spring rain.
