[Prompt 3]
“Ready?” Hunter asks as I eye the sleigh. Moira and Silent are both hitched up, with Moira stomping impatiently. That quirk is definitely going to pass off to Silent.
“Yeah.” I sigh, nodding my head. It’s now or never. If we leave even hours later then we won’t make it to my sister’s wedding, and I promised her we’d be a few days early, but I do have to say it doesn’t feel right, leaving the village that suffered a horrible flood. Thankfully all our things are fine, as well as Silent and Moira and of course Hunter.
“We gotta go.” Hunter says a little harsher than I’d like, grabbing my hand softly and helping me to the carriage.
“Hunter.” I groan as he tugs softly.
“Don’t you want to make it to your sister’s wedding?” He asks, cocking his head at me. His warm brown eyes stare into me.
“I do yeah, but like–” I pause, staring back at the horses. Silent is now also stomping impatiently. I guess they can’t wait to get going. “Nevermind.” I shake my head, and walk to the sleigh.
“No wait, what's going on?” Hunter reaches for my hand, but I pull away. It’s not that I mind his hands on me, but if we stop and talk we won’t make it, besides the horses are rearing to go.
“It’s fine, we can talk about it on the way.” I say, and plaster a smile on my face. Hunter takes a moment, staring into my eyes before finally letting me get onto the sleigh.
It takes a minute to let us both get comfortable, with a dark green and white plaid blanket laying over our legs. I lean my head on Hunter’s shoulder before he gets the horses moving.
I think all I needed was some sleep. It didn’t take me long to pass out on Hunter’s shoulder, his heart beating strong in my ear.
I groggily wake, Moira and Silent still trotting strong. I lift my head up, and star gobsmacked at the view. It’s insane. The mountains are massive, the pine trees tower over every lifeform, the snow makes the view a hundred times better. And, there is no one in the world I would rather be here with, witnessing this view, than with Hunter.
“Look at how pretty it is.” I whisper. Hunter looks at me, then to the view.
“It is quite remarkable.” He agrees. “You slept for a while. Do you feel any better?” He asks as I sit up straight.
“Yeah. I think it's just all the dramatics of the past few days.” I sigh. Moira is being her typical self, and trying to get Silent to go faster. I chuckle a bit.
“That makes sense.” Hunter says, wrapping one of his hands around my back, and holding the reins in one hand. “You still want to go to the wedding right?” He whispers the question like there are a hundred people who can hear us, but right now I can’t see anyone, let alone someone close enough to be within earshot.
“Yeah, it’s not really about that. It’s more about the village–” My voice trails off.
“Oh, that makes sense. I know you wanted to help, but we did the best we could. Just because we were there doesn’t mean we owe the village our life.” Hunter reminded me, taking his eyes off the horses and staring into my eyes.
“That’s true, it's just” I paused. He was right. We don’t owe them everything, we tried to help with what time we could.
“Come’re.” He said, pulling me closer. My head rested on his shoulder again as we sat in silence, just watching the view, and the horses.
