[Prompt 10] A Salt Lick
I chuckled as I set the wrapped gifts in front of Silent. There were four presents in total, and the holidays meant a new tradition. The sound of the pigeons on the roof filled the barn. I have to admit as annoying as they are, it wouldn’t feel like home any other way.
We don’t normally do much for the horses during this time of year, but I thought it was about time for them to enjoy the fun. Silent bobbed his head as he inspected one of the presents. He nudged it, and it toppled over, the box opening slightly. Silent nudged it open, his eyes widened like a child as he saw the toy inside. He snorted happily, and began attempting to get the present out of its box.
Last year's celebration wasn’t half as great, except for the fact that Silent’s twin brother, Assassin, was there, and my twin brother Hudson also. Assassin got sold to his mother’s stable, Hudson couldn’t take the pressure of keeping up with him. Hudson himself is probably somewhere in Cuba or something.
We have a lot to celebrate for this year. First of all, me and Silent are doing well. Not to mention the big move from Clovervalley to here, Whispering Grove. The journey to get here was erratic, but it was all worth it. This property was beautiful, and had various amenities. And the best care for the horses. Not that Clovervalley was bad in any way, shape, or form, but it wasn’t Whispering Grove, that was for sure.
“Like it boy?” I asked as I watched him try to pull it out. He finally managed it, a himalayan salt lick coming out. Silent stumbled backwards a few steps before regaining his balance. He seemed to be enjoying the salt lick, focusing solely on it. Maybe I didn’t fully think this out.
“Aw, that’s cute.” Bailey said, coming up behind me. He was cute. The way he acted reminded me of when he was much younger. He must have been what, two? He would get into all sorts of mischief and after every break out he’d go to a salt lick. I chuckled to myself.
“Yeah.” I chuckled watching as Silent tuned the world out, and the other three presents waiting for him, as he played with his salt lick.
I walked into the stall, grabbing the three big but not gigantic presents, tucking one under my arm as I held the other two in my hands.
