Icicle Mishap
The filly’s tail swished as she moved around the pen she called home, ears pricked and eyes wide as she took in the snow.
It was odd, and cold, but not unpleasant.
Actually, she mused, it was a lot of fun to play in.
Edith couldn’t help the way her ears pricked, nostrils flaring as she took in the altered smells that had come with the snow and freezing temperatures.
It had been like this for a week now, but this was the first time she’d been turned out since the first real snowfall, kept inside while they apparently waited for the small paddock she usually roamed to be checked from the drop in temperatures.
She glanced at the big oak tree in the middle, trotting closer as she eyed the giant spikes hanging from its branches.
Icicles, she thought she’d heard the humans call them. Pointy pieces of the ice they were worried about slipping on, which meant it was just frozen water.
That meant she could lick it, right? It was water!
She stuck her tongue out, stretching up for the lowest icicle.
And got halfway through a lick before she was tugging on her own tongue because it was stuck to the thing.
Um… what?
She made a soft noise and tried to pull away, stopping when the icicle held onto her. She was not informed of this! Since when did water fight back?!
She scowled at the frozen thing before her, snorting through her nose as she stomped a hoof into the snow.
This, she decided, would be a predicament.
How did she get away!?
She snorted again, tail lashing as she huffed and tried to think. She had a feeling just ripping back would be a bad idea, but how did she get the icicle to let go?
She stood there for several minutes, scowling as her tongue slowly got colder and no answer presented itself.
A noise caught her attention and she turned to see what it was, tongue still sticking out of her mouth. It took her a moment to realize that it had actually come off the icicle, and she blinked as she pulled it out of the cold air and glanced at the offending object, glistening where her tongue had been stuck and almost looking a tiny bit melted.
She glared at it.
Evil. Icicles were evil, she decided, turning and trotting away with a huff.
