[Bonus Prompt #2] Treats?

This piece takes place before phase 3

I had Zenith in a beautiful purple rope halter, with a few extra knots to help me keep him under control when we started training. Armed with various different treats, he had to take to one, right?

The trailer came into view. This wasn’t the first time we were doing this, but after talking to Elijah I realized my mistake was not praising him enough, not patting him enough, and not having treats. The problem with this whole plan is that Zenith doesn't actually like treats. But, Elijah insisted I at least try to feed him some treats. Treats of different kinds, so we can see what he likes best.

I had a little bucket full of various treats. A lot of them were store bought, but there were also a few things I found at home, like sugar cubes, carrots, apples, some watermelon I had left over, and a bottle of beer. 

Zenith gave me a weird look. Almost as if to say ‘ma, what's all this for?’ I walked around the arena with him a little. He seemed fairly calm. So I decided now was the best time to introduce the treats. We worked on liberty. I gave him the first treat, store bought peppermint treats by ‘Manna Pro’ Zenith sniffed the treat and huffed. “So..” I asked. Zenith put his head to the ground to search for something else. “Okay not the peppermint treats.” I sighed and went back to the bucket.

This time I offered a small piece of watermelon. “Zenny” I whistled, and he came over. “Try this good boy.” I said, showing him my hand. He took the watermelon.. Then spit it out. “Do you not like it? Or did you not mean to throw it to the ground?” I asked as I grabbed another piece from the bucket. This time Zenith didn’t even take it. “Okay so you don’t like sweet things apparently. Which is what most of these are.” I muttered. I grabbed the bottle of beer. “This isn’t exactly sweet, maybe you’ll like this?” I asked, as I popped open the bottle. “Zenny, here.” I said and offered him the beer. He took a sip, then spit it at me. “Hey! What did I do?” I asked as I moved my free hand to try and wipe off the beer. Zenith nickered. “You are so annoying.” I sighed and put down the beer bottle by the bucket. “Do you like carrots?” I asked and offered him a carrot. He tried to take a bite, but didn’t want to chomp down on it. I went into the bucket and found a baby carrot and offered it instead. Zenith took it, and ate the entire thing. I looked at him wide eyed. “You.” I started. “You like baby carrots?!” I exclaimed. Zenith bobbed his head. “Want some more?” I asked while grabbing more baby carrots from the bucket. Zenith nickered as I offered him more baby carrots, and quickly ate them, pushing his muzzle deep into my hand trying to make sure he got all the treats. I laughed as I dropped my hand. “Good boy.” I said while patting him. “Good boy.”
