[Drawlloween] Squeak!

These dang rats had been running through Lass’ stall all morning, and she had had enough. She thought she'd seen the last of them yesterday when she grabbed one by the leg and threw it at the stable hand walking past her stall, trying to alert them of her predicament. The young girl had told her that they'd set up some traps, and that the pesky rodents would all be gone soon; clearly that was a lie. 

‘I'll just have to deal with them myself’ she thought, as she stood watching the corner where the little rodents always got away from her. They were small enough to fit through the crack under her stall door, and as soon as one peeked its head out Lass lunged, catching the tiny creature by the tail. She stood proudly with the stunned rat dangling between her teeth, waiting for someone to notice her epic catch.

“Lass!” exclaimed the stable hand when she looked up and saw the rat dangling from the large chestnut mare's teeth. “Put that down!!” she said with exasperation as she dropped the poo she was shovelling and ran over to Lass’ stall to retrieve the rodent. “sigh, not again…” she muttered under her breath as she leant down and grabbed the large rat trap that was devoid of rats, to use as a cage for safely handling Lass’ catch.

Lass gently placed the rat inside the cage over the stall door, which went off with a snap when the rodent touched the pressure plate inside. It’s a humane trap, so the rat is fine, and Lass didn't even spook at the sudden noise. She was a good bombproof steed that was for sure, not scared of rats nor the traps that catch them.

“Sorry Lass, I did tell you they'd all be gone soon didn't I,” the stable hand said with a chuckle as she stroked the mare's deep red face, “It'll take more than overnight to get rid of them all pretty girl, you gotta be patient! Silly pony, maybe you just like catching them yourself.” Lass nudged into the girls hand at that accurate statement; she did indeed enjoy the thrill of trying to capture such small creatures, and she wasn't about to stop anytime soon.
